Swing & Club Dances

East Coast Swing
East Coast Swing is easy to learn and definitely designed to get your feet moving! It’s a highly popular social dance that can be danced to a wide variety of music, including rock, modern pop, blues, or country. The character of ECS is fun and upbeat, with lots of spins. It’s a stationary dance that rotates in a circular movement, and works more on a six-count beat basic. East Coast Swing is counted as triple step, triple step, rock step.

-        Barefootin’ by Alabama
-        Be My Baby Tonight by John Michael Montgomery
-        All Shook Up by Elvis Presley
The single-count swing, or Jive, has simple footwork and is great for dancing to extremely up tempo music like the old Big Band tunes, and music that is just too fast for East Coast Swing. It is very helpful to know both single and triple count swing, as then you can easily alter your foot pattern based on the speed of the music.

-        Roll Over Beethoven by Chuck Berry
-        Trickle Trickle by Manhattan Transfer
-        Rock This Town by Stray Cats
West Coast Swing
West Coast Swing is a popular form of swing because of it’s true “lead-follow” nature. WCS is danced in a slotted fashion – both partners turning 180 degrees during every pattern, to exchange places. West Coast Swing is very smooth and sexy, and can be danced to music ranging from contemporary pop, to blues and jazz, to country to hip hop. This makes it one of the most versatile dances you can learn, as you can dance it almost anywhere. (We at Danceworx like to take the opportunity to dance it at most restaurants, as they play awesome music and always have space between tables!!)

Nite Club 2
Nite Club 2 is a practical and versatile social dance. It is designed to be used with ballads in many different styles of music. The rhythm of the dance is very simple and rarely changes. This romantic dance fills the gap where no other dance fits, and it gives the dancer (whether beginner or advanced), the opportunity to express and create without requiring the use of rigid technique.  Nite Club 2 is attractive, romantic, and is a real asset to a social dancer. It has the feel of Waltz, but done to 4/4 time music, rather than Waltz’s ¾ time music.

-        Insatiable by Darren Hayes
-        Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion
